Does my homeowner insurance policy cover flooding?
If my tree falls and damages my neighbor’s property during a storm does my insurance policy pay for it?

If the tree is healthy and you had no reason to expect it to fall over, no – you did nothing wrong and the neighbor should go through her own insurance.

If you knew prior to the storm that the tree was unhealthy and likely to cause damage, yes – you were negligent of your duties to keep a safe environment and your libability section of your policy will cover the loss.

What is Comprehensive coverage for an Automobile policy?

Comprehensive coverage is also known as “other than collision coverage”, covering damage by fire, windstorm, vandalism, flooding, falling objects, theft and hitting an animal. This is also where you get your glass coverage with no deductible.

What is Collision coverage?

This is the part of the coverage that pays for damage when a covered vehicle collides with another vehicle or object.  Meaning, if you carry collision coverage on your polilcy your car is the “covered vehicle”.  The deductible you choose applies to collision (though is usually waived when the accident is not your fault).

What is an excluded driver?

Massachusetts requires an insured to report all licensed drivers who live in your household. You can exclude certain drivers from certain vehicles to lower your premium.  Many people exclude their inexperienced drivers when they go away to college.  As a result, the excluded driver cannot drive your cars.

How often do you renew your registration?

Most passenger vehicles renew every two years. Most commercial vehicles renew every year at the end of December. A good way to check is to look at your vehicle’s registration, the sticker on your back license plate or give us a call and we can look it up for you.
